Memset provides two monitoring interfaces for the load balanced cluster. The first, via the Service Monitor page, shows quantity of traffic and number of incoming connections as well as a configuration overview of the servers.
The second via the Monitoring section of the load balancer summary page, shows the online or offline status of the servers that have been added into the load balancer service and the results of any custom monitoring rules that have been created for them.
Service Monitor
The service monitor page provides an overview of the configuration of the servers and some real time figures on the connections, packets and data being distributed by the load balancer to the cluster.
This page can be found on the under the load balancer summary page in the Management Tools section.
The following is a screen shot of the service monitoring page for a pair of active servers:
This page shows the number of incoming connections per second, the bits received and sent and the number of packets received and sent, in addition to the current configuration of the servers in the cluster. The number of connections per second represents the number times a client is requesting an object such as image, html page etc.
An active server is one that is actively accepting connection and has not failed the last health check.
This page is updated automatically every few seconds so does not require refreshing to get the latest information.
Server Monitoring
This group of pages collected under the Monitoring section of the load balancer summary page allow the configuration and status of the servers in the load balancer cluster to be monitored by the Memset Server Monitoring system.
The monitoring system monitors the virtual or public IP of the load balanced cluster as if it were a single server. It will not show the status of the individual server and/or services running on the servers behind the load balancer. If this is required then Advanced Monitoring should be ordered for each server.
Load Balancer Status page
This page shows the result of the default ping monitor and any custom monitoring rules that have been created for the cluster. The advanced monitoring options will only be available if "Advanced Self-monitored" is ordered for the cluster. If advanced monitoring has not been ordered then only the ping monitor will be enabled and shown.
Should the status of the services on the servers be required then advanced monitoring will need to be ordered and configured for each individually.
Edit Advanced monitoring rules
This page is where additional monitoring rules can be created and modified for the load balanced cluster. The default ping monitor is always enabled and running by default.

Monitoring Settings
This page enables the server monitoring to be disabled and whether reminder emails are sent or not. The three options for monitoring are as follows:
- Enable Monitoring. – This is the default and the recommended setting. The virtual or public IP is being pinged and the contact email address notified should the cluster fail to respond.
- Disable Monitoring. Send reminder emails. This setting will disable monitoring but emails will be sent every day reminding you that monitoring has been disabled. This option is generally used when monitoring is temporarily disabled during scheduled downtime. The reminder emails will ensure that the suspension of monitoring is not forgotten about.
- Disable Monitoring. Do not send reminder emails. This setting is used when monitoring is permanently disabled.
Firewalling
A configurable firewall will only be available if the Self-Managed Firewall option is selected when the load balancer is ordered.
If the self managed firewall has been ordered then the load balancer will appear in the list of servers on firewall configuration page. The load balancer rule set will be given the same name as the load balancer product.
Rules for the load balancer are created in the same way as for all other Memset servers. For further information please see the Memset firewall documentation.
The rules for the load balancer firewall will be applied to the incoming traffic to the virtual or public IP address of the cluster.
