Referapaitient uses Memset cloud to reduce patient waiting time

Referapatient®, a database application designed and implemented by Bloomsbury Health Ltd was invented to solve the problem of doctors receiving rushed or confused information when given an urgent referral to deal with. To date, it is used in more than 80 NHS hospitals by doctors of all grades.

With the number of urgent referrals steadily increasing, and a few scribbled notes between a referring doctor and specialist no longer sufficient to provide the level of service patients expect, referapatient® ensures that all referrals and responses to specialists are securely documented via a single platform ensuring clear communication between doctors. 

Innovative applications like these are also highly welcomed by the NHS given their target to ensure every citizen can access their own health records electronically by 2020.

"Doctors need up-to-date information from relevant professionals, no matter where in the country they are,” said client advisor, Mr Sam Bedford, “That even means on occasions from ambulances on route to A&E departments, so the infrastructure housing our application needs to not only be highly secure but available at any time.”

The application was initially set up and trialled with Amazon Web Services, however, “Exponential interest and support from innovative NHS organisations spurred drive and ambition towards superior UK-based infrastructure provision,” explained Bedford.

Bloomsbury Health have partnered with UK SME cloud hosting provider Memset, to provide the cloud infrastructure for referapatient® having demonstrated a shared vision of an advanced NHS that uses superior technology to deliver critical resources in emergency care, that strictly adheres with compliance and security requirements.

Patients’ whose medical records and patient flow have been entered and tracked through the referapatient® application are receiving specialist advice much quicker than the traditional paper-based referral model.

Bedford concluded, “The potential to improve patient care so significantly is what we set out to achieve, and partnering with Memset was pivotal in providing the crucial balance between security and accessibility to make referapatient® a successful endeavour in the hands of healthcare professionals with limited resources.”
