Memset MD named business personality of the year

Female IT entrepreneur, Kate Craig-Wood, was named “Business Personality of the Year” during the annual Toast of Surrey Business Awards ceremony held at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on 26th February 2011.

The award, which was presented by Councillor Stephen Mansbridge from Guildford Borough Council, acknowledged Kate Craig-Wood’s personal contribution, made over a period of many years, not only to Surrey but as a female role-model on a national level throughout the IT industry.

Craig-Wood, who was not only born in Surrey, but has based her cloud computing business, Memset in Guildford and recruited from within the local community said that she was absolutely delighted to have received the award.

“Personally I've done a lot of work in the IT industry. I'm on the main board of intellect for the UK's High-Tech trade association, but specifically I chair their climate change group. I'm a passionate environmentalist and Memset was one of the first Carbon Neutral ISPs. I’ve been fortunate to have my efforts recognised on a national level, but winning this local business award and gaining the support and endorsement from my peers means a lot more to me,” said Craig-Wood.

Kate’s business, Memset strives to support the local community wherever possible, with annual sponsorship of the Guildford Lions’ fireworks through to being a founding member of the Surrey Chambers Community Foundation, which aims to help young people get involved with business.

Now in their third year, the awards run by the Surrey Advertiser and Eagle Radio aim to celebrate the success of businesses and recognise their contribution to the economy, community and prosperity of Surrey.
