Kate Craig-Wood Joins Public Sector Council

Leading IT entrepreneur, Kate Craig-Wood has today been appointed as one of six new SME CEO's on Intellect UK's Public Sector Council.

Craig-Wood’s appointment comes hot on the heels of her hosting company Memset securing a Framework Agreement for the provision of G-Cloud Services to government, making them one of a new generation of public sector ICT suppliers. 

Commenting on her appointment, Craig-Wood said: “I believe that historically the government has received poor value for money from our industry. I advocate new approaches to public sector ICT, such as AGILE software development, shorter contracts, pay-as-you-use, supply chain factorization, cloud computing and appropriate security in pursuit of higher-quality, better-value services for the taxpayer.”

Intellect UK, Britain's high tech trade association, and specifically their public sector council is at the front line of high-level interactions between government and the ICT industry. However, of late there had been concern that it was dominated by the "big six" incumbent systems integrators and thus a diminishingly accurate representation of the rapidly evolving sector.

“Having helped to start reform of how government buys its ICT through my position as technical architecture co-lead on phase 2 of the G-Cloud programme I'm keen to build on that work. I'm looking forward to working with my new colleagues towards the common goal of winning back the good favour of the civil service for the ICT industry and encouraging their use of SME suppliers."
